Once we started thinking about things seriously, we started pouring money into travel books, travel videos, travel clothing, and travel accessories. (If you ask Erin, she'll say it's all about the shopping.) We spent several months learning very important travel facts, such as:
We continued to put some practical thought into what it would take, where we would go, how we do it, and when we could begin. By April, we decided it was possible, and by May, we started telling our friends (and our employers) about our plans to leave at the end of September. Once we plopped down a big fat check for our cruise to Antarctica in July, we were fully committed.
And most likely by next July, we'll be fully committed in a whole other way. I just hope it's somewhere warm.
