Breakdown

My other "errand" was to stop into the local Oracle office to make sure my backup procedure went smoothly, and to clean up the files if so. At the office, I asked the assistant at the front desk to summon my pre-assigned guardian from last time, who met me, dropped me in my spot, and disappeared never to be seen again. Friendly guy — figures he would be in sales. I talked to Ivo, and found out that all my files made it to the US, and he was working on making CDs for me. I sent him a little "thank you" gift, and proceeded to clean up my mess.

I called back to the hotel to see how Erin had fared, but she didn't meet with the same success I did. On the contrary, it seemed she'd had a bit of a mental breakdown. She sounded so terrible, I actually grew quite worried. She couldn't find the laundromat, and her attempts to get directions failed to produce any useful results. As she hunted back and forth, hunger set in, but she even failed to find food. She became so delirious from hunger, in fact, that she actually ate Chicken McNuggets. Frustrated, hot, and tired, she returned to the hotel in misery. I hurried through an email to my bank about the currency problems and left to join her.

When I got to the room, Erin was pretty broken down. I did my best to console her, and downloaded our email so she could hear all the birthday wishes she'd gotten over the last few days. That, and the bath she took before I got there, seemed to help a bit. By the time we needed to start getting ready for the tango show, she seemed back to her normal self. We finished getting ready for the show, and went downstairs at 8, all dressed up for our first "nice" night out on the entire trip.
