And They're Off... | 1 | 2 | 3 |
From here, we head to the Bay Area, now experiencing a record heat wave, and preparing us well for the blazing tropics by giving us an early appreciation for the wonders of air conditioning. But in these first few days of travelling, the anxiety and anticipation continues to build. So much may change over next year, to the extent where we could be coming back to a whole new world: Dick Cheney might become a complete cyborg, The Simpsons might finally get old, Microsoft may switch over to arms dealing in an attempt to be less scrutinized by the government, and half the construction projects that were underway when I left California might even be done by then. Then again, maybe not. I still doubt we'll see robots doing our housework and flying cars and all those other nifty things that the 21st century supposedly promised us back in the 1960s. Somehow, I suspect that Alan Greenspan will still be controlling the global markets, even from beyond the grave, wireless phones still won't work, and traffic will suck more than ever.
But as long as The Simpsons are still around, I think we'll be okay.
