Chichen Itza - El Castillo — The great pyramid, El Castillo, viewed from the north, and early in the day before too many tourists were around.
Chichen Itza - Juego de Pelota — The great ball court, viewed from the top of El Castillo.
Chichen Itza - 1000 Columns Group — The Thousand Columns Group, as seen from the top of El Castillo (the big pyramid).
Chichen Itza - Maya Warrior Carving, El Castillo — Carving of a Mayan warrior, inside the temple at the top of El Castillo.
Chichen Itza - Inside El Castillo — Every 52 years, Mayans would rebuild their pyramids by simply putting a new one on top of the old one. This carving resides at the top of the pyramid that lies immediately inside El Castillo, i.e.: the former El Castillo.
Chichen Itza - Keith Inside El Castillo — Climbing the extremely narrow staircase to the inner temple is a cross between being in a sauna and exploring a haunted house!
Chichen Itza - Gran Juego de Pelota — The great ball court, where ancient Mayans played Juego de Pelota. Two players would compete against each other to knock an eight-pound rock into one of the hoops without using their hands, arms, or feet. The loser — or winner, they're not sure — was ritually killed. That probably made it hard for the players to earn long-term endorsement contracts.
Chichen Itza - Keith at Great Ball Court — Keith demonstrating what they did to the winner of the great game.
