Small Stream — A small stream of melted snow comes trickling along a rocky streambed.
Ascencio Valley — The streambed opens up to a wider valley, just a short while longer to the tower base.
Black Wall — Dark rocks and a steep cliff face tower ominously over us as we make our way around. Just stay back...don't get too close...
So Close Yet So Far — This was as close as Keith got to the summit. At least it looked a little nicer than it did from the bottom.
The Dugout — The tiny meadow where Keith waited out his weariness, and Erin's return. Luckily, the spot was pretty much invisible to people walking by on the trail just behind.
At the Base — A green-tinted lake of minerals and algae rests at the base of the towers. The first really good glimpses of it!
Scrambling Up — Close to the base...just a little scramble up and over a pile of giant rubble is all that's left, which hopefully won't "grow" while on it.
Scrambling Further — The rocks are a lot steeper than they look: it's not so much about scrambling, as it is about literally climbing. Although it's the shortest leg of the hike in terms of distance, it's one of the longest in time. The person you see at the front of the frame started this part of the climb, (down where the tiny dots are) about nine days ago. You should see Erin's thigh muscles after all this!
