Hideaway Hotel — The actual name of our lodging is the Hideaway Sports Lodge; I think the only reason it qualifies for the "sports" part is because they have a dart board, but they do have a pool with a deep end, making it ideal for scuba training.
Hideaway Hotel — Front of our hotel (boarded up because this is the hour the bar is closed).
Erin in Front of Hideaway Hotel — The view from the restaurant entrance, just outside our room. It's not exactly on the ocean, but fortunately, the lot across the street is empty.
Joyce and Jerry at HideawayJoyce, one of the original founders of the Hideaway, and Jerry, the permanently tired investor-turned-barkeep from Alaska.
Chap at Hideaway — Our fearless chef, who believes — like any true Texan — that no meal should be without its Texas toast.
Grumpy and HappyLorne and Jolene Jackson, the founders and sole owners of Grumpy and Happy Diving. Which one is Grumpy and which is Happy depends on who you ask.
Certified! — Lorne looking either: 1) proud to have just successfully trained two new divers, 2) frightened at the thought of us diving on our own now, or 3) relieved to see us leaving after taking so damn long to finish (it was the weather's fault, really!)
Iguana at Our Hotel — Iguanas love to dwell inside cinder blocks. Lorne and Jolene set up a whole cinder block playground in their background for one about four feet long. (They get much bigger than this one, but the bigger they get, the faster they run and hide.)
