Costa Rica Roads — An example of the condition of most roads in Costa Rica. This one (barely) connects the Pan American highway with the town of La Fortuna, but it wouldn't be the only time we saw a washout.
Road to La Fortuna — A sign warning of the dangers of crossing this one-lane bridge during bad weather, which pretty well describes when we were there. Seeing a concrete mixing truck tackle the crossing helped ease our concerns.
Our View of Volcan Arenal — This is all we ever got to see of Volcan Arenal. It's there somewhere behind those clouds — they just never went away during the three days we were there.
Montaña de Fuego Cabin — Our most expensive lodging to date, but well worth it for the quaintness and the view (not that we ever got to see it).
Lago de Arenal — A brief glimpse of Lago de Arenal through the rainclouds.
Worse Costa Rica Roads — The sign about 100 yards earlier that read "No Hay Paso" (roughly translated as "no passable route") was, unfortunately, the most accurate one we'd seen in the whole country. This was our first clue that the drive from Arenal to Monteverde would not be so easy.
Kim Testing the Road — Another of the many "roadblocks" we encountered during our harrowing ride from Arenal to Monteverde. Unsure whether or not our jeep would make it across without stalling (and probably stranding us for days), Kim waded out to test the depths of this little lake. We opted to turn around and take another detour...again.
